K-5 Children & Families
Children entering kindergarten through fifth grade have
several opportunities to become involved in Jewish events/culture, acting, sports
activities, aquatics, social activities and camp. As kids in this age group
further develop their personalities and abilities, the JCC makes available to
assist in creating healthy and creative outlets for children to explore the
world around them. The J provides a place where kids can come and have a good
time, meet new friends and parents can feel secure in knowing they’re in good
hands.
Helene Mirowitz
Department of Jewish Community Life
Jewish holiday-themes fun nights are scheduled for several
holidays throughout the year, including Passover, Purim and Rosh Hashanah. The
Helene Mirowitz Department of Jewish Community Life also supports several other
social programs for kids. These include our very popular Saturday Night Party
Zones where kids play games, eat, compete in fun contests and just have a good
time. Other programs include Mom and Me and Dad and I, Girls Night Out events. There’s also Jr. Maccabi Club and J Vacation Days, for when the kids are
off school and need to get out of the house.
With J Vacation Days, your kids can go for bowling and pizza, play
sports, swim and have a blast at the J. Also available is Kindermusik for your
children to gain a better appreciation for music.
Day and Resident
Camps
Day camps
at the JCC are nearly as old as the JCC itself. We
offer several ways for children to have the ultimate camp experience. There are
one-, two-, and four-week sessions available at both JCC locations. There is
our traditional camp, sports camp, arts camp, acting camp, gymnastics camp,
specialty camps and more to choose from. One of our greatest features of camp
is that swimming and/or swim lessons are available to our campers five days a
week.
Our residential camping program has a rich tradition of over
65 years. CampSabra
is located at the Lake of the Ozarks and
welcomes kids every summer who are entering third through tenth grades. Set in
a natural and beautiful setting on the lake, CampSabra
offers the opportunity for sailing, water skiing, mountain biking, tubing,
outdoor sports, theatre, camp fires, challenge course and much more! Accredited
by the American Camping Association, CampSabra meets the highest
standards of health and safety. Caring and experienced staff are recruited and
help our campers to have fun, learn new skills and develop life long
friendships.
Sports, Recreation
and Aquatics
Once your little one hits five years old, they’re ready to
join the Alpha Waves Swim Club, or if not quite there yet, you can set up
private or group lessons in our School of Swim and get them swimming like a fish. Young girls have
the chance to experience National Women and Girls in Sports Day by attending a
local women’s college basketball game, meeting the players and learning about
Title IX. Tae Kwon Do, NFL Flag Football, tennis and our very popular basketball leagues are also available
for those ready to hit the field or court. We also have batting cage facilities
available at our FoxBuilding (Chesterfield)
for private/group lessons or team rentals.
Roswell & Wilma
Messing Cultural Arts and Education Department
If your little one has bit bitten by the acting bug, then
the JCC can help explore the stage. We provide several theatrical opportunities
for kids beginning in kindergarten. Our Theatre Kochavim provides original
musical reviews for kids K-2 grade, so they can get used to the stage and
performing for a crowd. Upon entering grade three, kids can participate in
Theatre Chaverim, where past productions have included Treasure
Island, High School Musical, Disney’s Aladdin and Suessical the
Musical. And if your little one is not quite ready for the stage, acting
fundamental classes are available to learn the basics or acting while being in
a fun supportive environment.
Birthday Parties
And when it’s time to celebrate another candle on the
birthday cake, head to the J! We can accommodate birthday parties, large or small, and
can customize your party to be in the pool, involves gym games, sports or just
have a great room to eat cake and ice cream.
I worked out at the J for over 14 years using the same elliptical machine over and over. Then a friend of mine with cancer told me to get healthy and live every day to the fullest. I started working with one of the JCC’s certified personal trainers and started strength training and running and I’ve lost 20 pounds and have never felt better.
