Middle & High School

Kids entering middle through high school are looking for opportunities to express themselves. At the JCC we allow teenagers to grow and mature through taking on leadership roles with groups like BBYO or tackling acting with Theatre Chaverim, which is set up for kids in grades six through eight.

Helene Mirowitz Department of Jewish Community Life
BBYO (B’nai B’rith Youth Organization) is the largest Jewish organization in the world for teenagers. It allows them to become part of a Jewish community, make friends from across the country and develop leadership skills from within their chapters to regionally and nationally. See the sports, recreation and aquatics section for other ways to meet people from all over the nation in a world wide Jewish event.

Roswell & Wilma Messing Cultural Arts and Education Department
Theatre Chaverim for sixth through eighth graders allows kids to cut their teeth in deeper acting roles.  Treasure Island, High School Musical, Disney’s Aladdin and Suessical the Musical are recently performed productions. Also available are acting workshops, including Scene Study, which takes acting to the next level in character development.

Residential Camp
Our residential camping program has a rich tradition of over 65 years. Camp Sabra is located at the Lake of the Ozarks and welcomes kids every summer who are entering third through tenth grades. Set in a natural and beautiful setting on the lake, Camp Sabra offers the opportunity for sailing, water skiing, mountain biking, tubing, outdoor sports, theatre, camp fires, challenge course and much more! Accredited by the American Camping Association, Camp Sabra meets the highest standards of health and safety. Caring and experienced staff are recruited and help our campers to have fun, learn new skills and develop life long friendships.

Sports, Recreation & Aquatics
From 12-16 years old, kids are welcome to begin working out in either of our fitness centers upon completion of our Youth Weight Room Orientation. There is also sport specific training available for kids 12 and up who are looking to excel in a selected sport. Batting cage time is available for rent or private lessons with one of our baseball professionals at our Chesterfield location. We also offer several other baseball related programs and batting cage special events. Also available is Tae Kwon Do, basketball leagues, racquetball, NFL Flag Football and more.

The JCC Maccabi Games is another large activity for kids throughout this age group. The Games are for kids 13-16 years old and are in different cities throughout the United States every year. Several sports are played at each site, with the JCC sending a delegation of athletes to one or two cities each year. The Maccabi Club is for middle school kids and is geared toward getting them excited for The Maccabi Games. The Maccabi Club participates in sports days, barbecues, ski trips and other fun activities.

In aquatics kids have the opportunity to join the Alpha Waves Swim Club and participate in meets throughout the summer. Also available are Lifeguard Training classes and CPR & AED classes. School of Swim offers swim lessons for all levels and are available for everyone, including those looking to work on specific strokes.

I truly enjoyed the Maccabi Games experience. My host family was so helpful and nice and we got along great! I enjoyed meeting and competing with athletes from all over the world. I loved being with all Jewish teens—the feeling of everyone celebrating Judaism was great.
