Adults 50+
Adult Services
Department
For our over 50 group we have all sorts of educational and supporting programs.
For those over 60 years old, we provide programs designated to assist in
their ability to lead regular lives on a day-to-day basis, should that be necessary. Our Social Nutrition
Program provides meals Monday-Thursday and a special Shabbat dinner on Friday
at the Covenant I Building on our Creve Coeur campus for a suggested small
donation. We also have a Home Delivered Meal Program for homebound seniors
within a designated service area available Monday-Friday. For those seniors who
may require a more structured full day of activities, meals and stimulating
environment, we have our Adult Day Services program. This program provides
social services in a safe and caring environment as well as support programs
for their families.
For people 65 and older who live in a designated area, we
have our NORC program, a limited membership type done in conjunction with the
Jewish Federation. To see if you live in the designated areas, please contact
our membership department at 314-442-3173.

Department of Jewish Community Life
We also offer the opportunity to explore your Jewish
heritage and values through the lifecycle. This starts with the Aleph Bet of
Marriage, a workshop for engaged and newlywed couples and Mothers Circle,
which aids in raising children Jewish when one of the parents is not. Other exciting programs include our annual Women’s Shabbat Retreat, the Out of Towner's Club and setting up a chance to speak with our own Rabbi Brad Horwitz about Jewish
Learning.

Messing Cultural Arts and Education Department
Opportunities for involvement in cultural arts abound in our
annual festivals. We host the New Jewish Theatre, recipient of several Kevin
Kline theatre awards over the past two years (awards for local theatre companies for outstanding
performances in several categories). The St.
Louis Jewish Book Festival is held annually in the late fall and has seen such
authors/actors as Lily Tomlin and Fran Drescher appear as keynote speakers. The Jewish Film Festival occurs every June and provides the
chance for the community to view more than 15 movies presenting a look at
Judaism in various ways and in several circumstances. Another popular week is
our annual Used Book Sale, where tens of thousands of books are available for
sale for a week in October, and preceded by a summer one day only used book
sale in June.
J Associates
The J Associates volunteers work to assistance in the
advancement of the JCC through fundraising efforts for scholarships, programs,
equipment and supplies. They have had an effect in several areas of the J, from
infants to the frail elderly. Creative programs J Associate members participate
in include winery and museum trips, gourmet cooking and visiting state parks
and local hot spots. Fundraisers are held during the year where the money is
raised to support the JCC programs.
Sports, Recreation
and Aquatics
The St. Louis Senior
Olympics is the highlight of sports for adults 50 and over. Over four days
during the Memorial Day weekend, athletes from 50-100 gather and participate in
any of over 35 available athletic contests. The goal is not only to win, but
have a great time, compete and create new friendships. If you’re not ready for
the Senior Olympics, then we still have our year round adult sports leagues
available in racquetball, volleyball, basketbal and softball in the spring and
summer.
Attending Camp Hawthorn (now Camp Sabra) is one of my fondest childhood memories. It shaped who I am today. I learned how to get along with others, never give up, be responsible and embrace my Jewish identity. I loved it so much I vowed to send my kids someday.
