Pool Rules

These are the general swimming pool rules for all pools at the JCC. We want you and your family to have a great time at the J. Please be familiar with these rules and we know you will! See you at the pool!

General Pool Rules

  • Swimmers are to shower before entering the pool.
  • Children eight (8) and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times. An adult must be in the water with children who cannot swim.
  • Children who are not toilet trained must wear swim diapers
  • Proper swim attire must be worn.
  • During instructional classes, members not involved in the class will not be allowed in the instructional area. Members may be required to leave the pool depending on the size and type of instructional class.
  • Running, pushing, obscene language and rough play is prohibited in all areas of the pool.
  • Hanging on lane ropes is not allowed.
  • Diving is permitted in designated areas only.
  • No food or drink (except water) is allowed on the deck. There is a picnic/snack area outdoors where food may be eaten.
  • Furniture is not allowed in the water.
  • In the event of lightening or bad weather, the pool will be closed and will reopen 30 minutes from the time of the last sighting.
  • No oil-based lotions are permitted.
  • Alcoholic beverages are not allowed.
  • Lifeguards must be obeyed at all times.
  • The lifeguards have the authority to either permit or restrict flotation devices, ball throwing, etc.
  • The JCC is not responsible for lost or stolen articles. Lockers are provided for your convenience. No personal items, including beepers, are to be checked in with the lifeguard.

Recreational Pool Rules
(Marilyn Fox Building)
  • Height and weight requirements must be followed in the Fox Recreational Pool. Children must be less than 48 inches tall to use the play equipment. Children must be at least 48 inches tall to use the slides.
  • No swimsuits with metal tabs, jewelry, watches, sunglasses or goggles, etc. may be worn while using the slide.
  • Flotation devices are not permitted in the recreational pool. This includes water wings, life jackets, pool pal bathing suits and noodles.

Definition of Lap Swimming
Swimming in a single file with continual forward motions and with minimal rests at the ends of the pool. One double lane may be divided with 1, 2 or 3 persons swimming single file up and back or 3 to 8 persons swimming in a circular pattern.

Lap Swimming Rules
Due to the increased interest and demand for indoor lap swimming, we kindly ask patrons to follow these simple guidelines for sharing lap lanes.
  • Please be considerate of the other lap swimmers
  • The third swimmer in a lane may request a circular swimming pattern. The request may be placed through the guard on duty.
  • When the fourth person enters the lane, that lane must circle.
  • All swimmers must be notified before circling is started.
  • All swimmers must cooperate when asked to circle.
  • When swimming in a circular pattern, stay as close to the lane ropes as possible. Passing is permitted on the inside only.
  • A double lane may be designated recreational swim at any time by the staff.
  • Children may lap swim as long as they adhere to the rules: Equipment such as pulls buoys, masks, fins, snorkels and paddles may be used Must be used properly.
