Strengthen Our Community
We Must Strengthen Our Community!
A crisis has emerged in the Jewish community’s ability to connect.
There was a time when the St. Louis Jewish community was tightly knit. But the distractions and the hectic pace of daily life have stretched and frayed that fabric. As a result, the Jewish population is not only aging, but decentralizing. The U.S. Jewish population has declined 5.5% from 1990 to 2000. At the JCC, there is a real need to reinvigorate our community:
• Membership is down to 4,200 from an all-time high of 6,100.
• Inefficient and outdated buildings are creating an on-going budget deficit.
• We are becoming scattered as competition increases from a wide range of public and
private fitness venues and others offering early childhood programs, camps and
other services.
To strengthen and connect our distinctive culture and values, we must embark on a journey through the JCC Capital Campaign to create and sustain a vibrant future that reinvigorates all.
